Regional Variability of Raindrop Size Distribution from a Network of Disdrometers over Complex Terrain in Southern China

Raindrop size distribution (DSD) over the complex terrain of Guangdong Province, southern China, was studied using six disdrometers operated by Meteorology Service during period 1 March 2018 to 30 August 2022 (~5 years). To analyze long-term DSD characteristics topography in three stations on windward side, Haifeng, Enping and Qingyuan, leeward Meixian, Luoding Xuwen, were utilized. The median mass-weighted diameter (Dm) value higher than windward-side also showed greater Dm variability. With regard generalized intercept (log10Nw) value, log10Nw values decreased from coastal mountainous areas. Although there some differences Dm, liquid water content (LWC) frequency between stations, still similarities, with LWC all showing a single-peak curve. In addition, diurnal variation mean had negative relationship although inverse not particularly evident at Haifeng site. rainfall rate peaked afternoon exceeded maximum night which indicated that strong land heating daytime significantly influenced local variation.
